Turning Point’s Holiday Magic Program In the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Turning Point reaches out to the communities we serve to support families in need. Together with the support of Wareham Police, Fire, and Transportation departments, Toys for Tots, businesses, countless individuals, multiple local service agencies, churches, numerous non-profit and private organizations, Turning Point provides toys, gifts, clothing and basic needs items and brings some holiday magic to over 400 area children each year! We are beyond grateful for the support this program receives and for the ability to service those less fortunate in the towns of Wareham, Buzzards Bay, Carver, Marion, Mattapoisett, Middleboro and Rochester. |
Emergency Response Program
Last year’s bitter cold spell in February 2023 emphasized the need to shelter those sleeping outside during a deep freeze event or blizzard conditions. That weekend when wind chill factors contributed to below zero temperatures, Turning Point, with some financial assistance from Town officials, brought 19 unsheltered individuals in into motels in what was assuredly a lifesaving intervention. This year, WACH’s Board Chair developed an Emergency Response Plan (ERN) to be prepared with specific procedures and guidelines to implement the Plan to keep the unsheltered safe and warm during extreme winter weather events.
This year Turning Point supported 18 unsheltered people in the first extreme weather event on January 19-21, 2004, extending the 2-night plan to 3 nights when the low temps continued. There were 3 additional unsheltered people who chose to stay in their cars. The need is great. If you would like to donate to this program, call 508-728-5384 or email [email protected].
